Everyday is International Women’s Day at The Hearth
We have been reflecting on what International Women’s Day means for The Hearth. As a business that centers women’s experience at the core of everything we do, what does showing up differently look like, and should we?
This year’s theme is ‘Give to Gain’. We’ve had conversations with members about their convoluted feelings about this theme this year. Are women already not under enough pressure to do and be everything, all at once? The present mother, the tender caregiver, the powerhouse career woman, all while juggling three loads of laundry and meals for a week. Yet, others have celebrated it for levelling the playing field. Every hand outstretched in service of another is a win for us all. International Women’s Day also falls within Women’s History Month, and as we see social change across the world, we realise we are witnessing women’s history unravelling in front of us everyday.
At The Hearth, we hold the fundamental belief that all women are holistic beings, capable of holding space for a spectrum of experience. We can at once share liberally, while protecting our inner reserves of resilience. We can also be a good mother who doesn’t always get it right, or a great employee who missed the mark. In other words, The Hearth believes that women should not be upheld to unrealistic standards, and that the true exaltation of femininity is spacious, imperfect and endlessly metamorphasising.
This International Women’s Day, The Hearth will gather for our Hearth Women’s Night on Thursday, 5th of March, creating a patchwork quilt together in community. We will create an object of care together, marked by each of our hands, to celebrate the illusory nature of womanhood in today’s world. Some of us will share, others will conserve our energies, but together, in community, we will make space for joy, expansion and care, together. Just like every other day at The Hearth, and, a fitting way to mark this years’ International Women’s Day.
